Woodley Hammers Football Club Reserves history

The team is formed originally from a junior Hammers side managed by current Chairman Andy Hignell. The team finished at Under 18 level as most of the players went to University. Now these players have finished University, or moved close to home, the team has started up again in 2002 with some new faces to compete in the Reading and District Sunday Football League Division 4 East.

The side were in the title race for the whole of their first season, but were piped to the title in the end, but still finished second and duly promoted to Division 3 East.

The 2003/2004 season say many new faces join the team and an up and down season ended with Hammers finishing a respectable 4th with the best defensive record in the division for the second consecutive season. Due to teams in higher divisions withdrawing, Hammers were elevated to Division 2 East.

2004/2005 saw a mixed season for Hammers as they started the season well before some poor performances knocked Hammers for six. A decent run pulled Hammers back into place and made a challenge for automatic promotion but the fell short at the end and missed out on goal difference. However, by the power of default Hammers were elevated again to compete in Division 1. The good run of form carried over to the cup and Hammers picked up their first silverware when they won the E Cambridge (League) Cup.

The forth season that this played together broke and equaled unwanted records. Having started 2005 well, two wins after Christmas was the last Hammers gained points as they went 6 games beaten during 2006 and failed to score for 5 games running. This run of defeats also included equaling their worst ever defeat of 4 - 1. Fortunately one record remained intact as the side won their last two games of the season meaning that Hammers have gained maximum points from each seasons closing fixture.
